5.5 – Trenitalia Pass and Italia In Tour Pass

Trenitalia offers its own railpass, the Trenitalia Pass, designed for non-residents of Italy. Unlike Interrail or Eurail passes, the Trenitalia Pass exclusively covers Trenitalia high-speed Frecce, Intercity, and Intercity Notte sleeper trains, omitting regional trains.

It provides a fixed number of journeys (3, 4, 7, or 10 trips) to be used within specified periods. For example, a journey is counted each time you ride one train route, regardless of return trips on the same day.

The pass is available in two classes:

- Easy: Valid for second class on Frecciarossa and standard class on other trains, including seats or couchettes on Intercity Notte.

- Comfort: Offers first class, business class on Frecciarossa, and seats, couchettes, or sleepers on Intercity Notte.

Passenger categories include Adult, Youth (under 28 at the time of purchase), and Senior (over 60 at the time of purchase). Reservations are mandatory for each journey but are free and can be made online at Trenitalia.com or at stations.

To purchase a Trenitalia Pass, visit the Trenitalia website, where you can book your first train for travel within 11 months after purchase. Passes are electronic, and upon purchase, you'll receive a pass number via email. It's advisable to register on Trenitalia.com before purchasing to streamline the process.

The Italia In Tour pass, on the other hand, offers unlimited travel on Trenitalia's regional, regional express, and metropolitan trains for 3 or 5 consecutive days.

It excludes specific routes such as those in La Spezia, Lombardy, Bolzano, Trento to Bassano del Grappa, and others operated by Trenord.
